An uber modern city that grew from a tiny Arab fishing and pearl-trading village to become one of the world’s leading commercial and residential destinations.
The emirate of Dubai has the largest population in the United Arab Emirates — there are seven emirates in total. The largest emirate is Abu Dhabi, the capital. It is also famous for its many man made islands, one even reclaimed from the sea to look like a map of the globe.
Like most of the largest cities around the world, Dubai relies heavily on immigrants to build and work in this continually expanding metropolis.

Within this city of dazzling skyscrapers, mega malls, world-class restaurants and lavish lifestyles, dwells a large number of expatriates (expats, or ex-pats), people young and old, from multiple nations and a myriad of backgrounds who came to this tiny emirate looking for well-paying and secure jobs under the lure of living a ‘tax-free’ life.
However, a majority of expats are unable to fulfill this dream due to ever increasing rents and high cost of living, making it more and more difficult to send money back home to their families.
