Brian Williams Made So Much Stuff Up About Reporting For NBC
The Washington Post issued a report over the weekend stating that, according to an anonymous source from inside NBC, a probe investigating Williams’s reporting has uncovered 11 instances in which he may have exaggerated or otherwise lied about incidents he reported on. For reference, Williams was placed on leave from his post as the nightly news anchor on NBC when it was revealed that he lied about having been in a helicopter that was shot at in Iraq. Since then, doubts have been raised about his claim that rockets passed under a helicopter he was inside of in Israel, as well as his claims to have been in the midst of the Egyptian protests in Tahrir Square back in 2011. The Washington Post report didn’t detail what the other 11 “embellishments” were, and it’s unclear whether that information will ever be made public. To Williams’s credit, it seems like all of these instances involve him hyperbolizing his personal experiences rather than actually misreporting factual information in his capacity as a news anchor, but even still it’s not great to have a news anchor who has to make that kind of distinction in regards to telling the truth.
