FOX09T Book 1 Chapter 1F09T Book 1 Chapter One - Larissa Of Foxwood
As the first soft gray wave of pre-dawn light filtered in through the open bedroom window, there was the slightest movement beneath the blankets. He detected it of course immediately, his peaked ears twitching and rotating like tiny radar stations, his ever-vigilant amber eyes flashing fully open. Yes, she was stirring. Soon she would be awake. His guardian duties were done for another night. He carefully raised himself from where he had lain curled up at the foot of the bed and alighted with a little jump from the bed to the floor. His four black-stockinged paws made no sound as he padded across the hardwood floor. Then came the short hop to the dresser top beneath the open window. There he hesitated to turn and regard his sleeping charge for a moment before departing. He wondered how such a seemin
The Tree as Beautiful MachineWhile searching deviantART for images for the Earth Day article, I became intrigued with how trees have become not only such a central focus of our current environmental concerns, but also how they play such a central role in our art, whether as background or actual subject matter. There are so many Enchanted Forests on deviantART that it made me wonder if trees, so mundane and taken for granted yet at the same time so vital to life on earth and so steeped in myth, have always been the revered subjects of the world’s artists.

Engage Wonderment: Odyssey - Phase TwoGreetings Everyone. Over the last six weeks I have been plotting, planning, and researching all of the ways we might efficiently and effectively go about publishing Odyssey this year in book form. In an effort to bring back the best possible counsel before embarking on this process I have spoken with multiple publishers, printers, designers, distributors, and authors that I have worked with in the past.

Earth Day: The Inspiration of the Natural WorldSince human beings harnessed the secret of fire the natural world has been seen by many only in terms of how best it can be exploited of its abundant riches. It’s amazing now to look upon the desert sands of the Arab lands and know that this place, the cradle of earliest civilization, was once known as “The Fertile Crescent.” All Europe was once one great forest – until all those trees were needed to create the naval armadas of dueling empires. Only the Earth’s natural forces, like earthquakes, have been more destructive and wasteful than humanity.

A Final Communique From the Front LinesA Philosopher-Poet’s Final Communique From the Front Lines
Following a riot last month in the same location, and in the footsteps of dozens before him, another Foxconn worker in China has hurled himself off the roof of a building within the Foxconn campus where many of the devices that surround us everyday are manufactured. Ipods, Ipads, Xbox's, etc.
Research reveals that decades ago…
A musician and poet with a lot on his mind recorded a demo of a song shortly before he was gunned down at a relatively young age in front of his apartment. At the time the demo was recorded, the track was intended for a former band mate’s solo album. Ironically, the title of that band mate’s soon to be released collection of songs was “Stop And Smell the Roses.” The vilified widow of this musician, whom in life he loved deeply, posthumously completed the track and set it for release.
I find these lyrics eerily observant of

Final Thoughts from Clive Barker
Odyssey. I can think of no better word to describe the journey that took place these past few months.
With the prologue, “They’re Mad, They Are,” I began work on a vessel that was not yet ready for sea. And on that holed ship, together we embarked over open waters towards an unknown destination.
What I then witnessed both touched and humbled me. You, the mighty crew of the HMS Ody
The Dead Places: The Visual Delicacy of DecayIt’s easy to think of art in terms of what is instantly pleasing to the eye, of that which evokes a feeling of joy and hopefulness and blissful peacefulness or ecstatic exultation. This is the consideration of art as something that helps propel us forward through life – to out future great deeds, our career victories, or dreams of coming big events. But there is a peak to every life. At some point all people, and all places, and even all ideas have to begin the inevitable decline that is the other balancing half of a lifetime.

Tokyo Zephyr Update & The Next Odyssey Project
Greetings fellow Light Train Travelers. Thank you for your continued patience.
We have made our choices for the artwork for Chapters 7 and 8, the three poems and the line art that has been chosen to be included in the book. Two of the line art pieces are for the end pages of the book. Those along with another line art piece still need to be colored so we'd like to offer up a last challenge to the community. All you top flight colorists out there we'd like you to take your best shot at coloring these pieces. Then we will be ready to publish right away after that. The best pieces will be included in the book. Your last chance to be a part of this charitable cause. You have until October 1st.
I will be announcing the next Odyssey project within two weeks. We will have a very special guest joining us on our next O
Happy 13th birthday, and thank youToday marks deviantART's 13th birthday and a handful of us -- spyed, mccann, chris, and me -- have been on this amazing journey since pretty much day one. Thirteen years ago, most of us in that handful were just teenagers, unknowingly embarking on a time in our lives that would shape us, inspire us, and be truly thought-provoking in ways we could have never imagined. Today, I find myself so fortunate to play a role in the ongoing journey that has deviantART at the forefront of solving complex problems that affect the creative community.
Throughout the years, I've met incredible people at deviantMEETs, town hall meetings, and visits to new countries -- all of which have fostered relationships and changed my life. I'm extremely grateful to have talked with every deviant who has crossed my path -- even in a note, comment, or journal. The deviantART community has flourished and prospered in the past 13 years, and we're thankful for that,
deviantART Honors Spirit Day Tweet
You might have noticed that deviantART is wearing purple today, as October 20, 2010 marks Spirit Day -- an event to honor teens who have lost their lives to anti-LGBT bullying.
While this specific type of bullying has received a lot of media attention as of late, we'd like to bring to light how bullying is a wide-spread problem that impacts everyone -- regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, race, or profession. And the recent surge of teen suicides associated with bullying can't be ignored or overlooked.
In honor of Spirit Day, deviantART CEO Angelo Sotira ($spyed) took a few minutes to address
Did you know? You can upload to Sta.sh many ways!In continuation of our series on using Sta.sh, we'd like to let you know of yet another way you can utilize your Sta.sh -- by uploading via email and FTP.
Why, you ask?
There are several uses for this feature. Say you're walking down the street, and you see something that catches your eye. Perhaps there's an impromptu dance party, or the sun is setting over the mountains. You only have your phone on you, and you snap a photo. It looks amazing, but that photo is forever doomed to reside in your phone. Now, you can email that picture to your Sta.sh and have it ready for you when you're home. Sta.sh also gives you a place to store that photo so you can share the link with friends.
Or, say you're at school or work you've been collaborating with a friend on your latest masterpiece. You may not be able to log in to your deviantART account, or don't want to ge
