Skeletons simultaneously attract and repulse us, much like the contemplation of our one day inevitable deaths.

We would like to as much as possible shut out thoughts of our mortality, even though it is the one thing all human beings have common — the price of being alive is to know we will one day die. Skeletons are always there to remind us of this one grim universally equalizing reality, an irony so amusing that their skulls leer at us in with an eternally frozen smile. It’s as if they are mocking our fears and trepidations about what comes next when pass through the portal of death and leave behind our own bones as the final record that we ever existed in this world.

If you can’t get rid of the skeleton in your closet, you'd best teach it to dance.”

— George Bernard Shaw

Rigid, the skeleton of habit alone upholds the human frame.”

— Virginia Woolf

There is something about a closet that makes a skeleton terribly restless.”

— Wilson Mizner

The world dies over and over again, but the skeleton always gets up and walks.

— Henry Miller
