Over the last six weeks I have been plotting, planning, and researching all of the ways we might efficiently and effectively go about publishing Odyssey this year in book form. In an effort to bring back the best possible counsel before embarking on this process I have spoken with multiple publishers, printers, designers, distributors, and authors that I have worked with in the past. I have also been in contact with almost all of the contributors to the project so far and they are all on board to participate. Judging from the feedback that I have received since making the decision to publish, I am certain we are going to have a lot of fun as the next phase of this project gets underway. We have all agreed to give any revenue to a charity organization. UNICEF has come to mind and we are narrowing down the possibilities.
We have decided to include some of the backstory around the Odyssey Project in general and it seems like a very good idea to provide a few of the prompts from our process as well. This will give the uninitiated reader just discovering our story for the first time a bit of context for the words they are reading and the visuals they are taking in. Imagine segments from the wrap up article that we published to HQ with even more detail.
I would love to involve as many deviants as possible in the published book. We have many opportunities still available for participation and I have a few ideas that would include even more artists in the process. First, there are the covers for the last two chapters, the three poems, the name of the book itself, and the ultimate cover for the entire book.
I also thought we might create something special for publication and have four official covers. Too crazy? Of course all the artists would have to agree on publishing with us and also agree that the revenue would be going to charity. I would also like to include a list of all the deviants who participated in this project or helped along the way in the book as well. That is a very long list and we should start compiling that list.
Let’s set a new date for submission of these last elements and make sure all deviations are accounted for in folders within the group. If you have already submitted(and there have been some great entries so far) please resubmit to the new folder that will be set up for each category. Let's get them organized so we can all judge them together in one place.
Before I make final decisions and we begin phase two of this process I would ask that you please share with me your thoughts and ideas on what elements you would like to see included in the book and how you feel about the plan in general. This is a very special project and I have a feeling phase two is going to be as exciting as phase one turned out to be.
Is Odyssey a novel of sorts? If so, what is it about?
