December 21st Marks the End of Civilization

Who would you invite to your final deviantMEET or dinner party on that fateful day?

W

e are facing yet another grave prediction that we are in the true end of days this year and this time, this time, we have been inundated with five years worth of investigative shows, frightful books, and alarmist interviews outlining evidentiary “proof” that this is the one date on the calendar, certified by a now vanished people in what is now the jungles of Mexico, that humanity will not escape.

The one fateful day has been carved in stone, forged in blood, aligned with the stars and set in motion thousands of years ago by learned men. There is a most intriguing science lesson from MAD magazine; in the introduction to an article on the dark art of palm-reading, the text stated: “of course, any 7-year-old could explain that wrinkles appear on hands from folding them… but since we don’t have a seven-year-old here today, let’s continue with our idiotic premise.” So, with the same logical acuity, let’s decide that so many websites couldn’t all be wrong, and so the Mayan Doomsday is real.

Now... If the entire list of humanity were at your disposal for one final grand soiree on the way to oblivion, with whom would you prefer to spend your last few hours?

Family and friends? Scientists and/or religious leaders? Maybe celebrities like rock stars and movie stars?

Then again, maybe there’s that one enigmatic figure you’d want to have all to yourself for your last conversation, e.g., the Dalai Lama, Bob Dylan, David Beckham (this last one maybe not just to talk to)? There are only a few days left until one of the great “Mystic events” days is proven out one way or the other. Just enough time to get those invitations out!

C

ontemplating the decline and ultimate demise of a society’s reign on the planet whether it be the Mayans, Atlanteans, or Romans demands a certain level of retrospective analysis of the historical event by our scientists, academics and thinkers. But, to imagine the end of the Earth in one fell swoop within one day’s time will require a whole other level of forensic evaluation and interpretation should sentient beings from other worlds come upon our planet’s civilizations in ruins and try to divine what might have been here and just what our diverse societies were up to.  Just as we unearth an entire community in the deserts or mountains of a remote region and begin the process of piecing together the everyday life of a people forgotten, so shall the space gods or our time traveling future-selves come upon remnants and begin the same process.

There is a tried and true thesis altering, eye-opening notion that is used by teachers when discussing a multitude of subjects including critical thinking, philosophy, politics, comparative religion, organizational behavior, and many others; in one hundreds years from this moment there likely will be all new people on the planet. Every one of us replaced with the next. But consider this even more startling "truth" that one day far, far into the future of existence the sun really will die out and all will perish (unless we... well that's what sci-fi is for).

Even with the certainty that all of the world's art, music, and literature will be wiped away, even though we are only here for a short while, we must continue to create, paint, write, build, compose, sculpt, choreograph, carve and photograph to our greatest abilities. If, one day, there is indeed only a ghost of us left in the cosmos — perhaps in the form of a few “cave drawings” inside our abandoned intergalactic escape ships — it is still our duty to treasure our time and leave this world a more manageable, loving, less painful place than when we got here.

Hey, Everyone! News from NASA!

I

techgnotic of deviantART, without Mayan heritage unless they also ran Italy and Ireland back in the day, promise you that the world will not end this Friday December 21st. If you are worried at all that any of this might be true please know that you are going to be fine and the world will go on. I promise. Please make plans for a wonderful Saturday morning and enjoy your weekend. And if this greatly disappoints you… well, maybe from here forward the world will embrace you instead.

Having faith does not mean having a Religion though.
And it is the same with morals.

If you do not disregard the Bible, your god has many faults.
If you go by the Bible, he is not right in what he calls a sin.
If God is a good being, then the Bible is not his words.

I said: ""I may have done something "bad" but I do not blame that on what race I am born as"" (and by race, in this case, I meant all humans as one race/the human race)(By the way. You can just press the reply link after the name [Ex. "~Shruikan2 posted a >>reply<< on Mayan Doomsday by $techgnotic"])

I believe that there are those who are "pure".
But I do not know whether they in that case are humans...

I see...

I'm free right now, so it's time to continue this . . .

Well . . . Yes. I am on God's side, but I'm saying that faith is much stronger than facts and figures. Science can only teach us much about the universe and everything around it, but it cannot teach us of our beliefs, morals, and spirit. That comes through faith alone.

God does.

Ah yes . . . I see. Sorry, It'd be a might trouble to find that question again, so what was it? If you remember, please do re-ask it. I believe that you were asking why humans are the main sinners? Well, God gave humans the Earth to do with it as they please, since he gave us free will. But temptation is all around us and sometimes we give into it, thus sinning.

Ah . . . Now you misunderstand. I was asking what you thought of the 'innocence' of the youth. Is anyone truly pure?

And, actually, I'm not for abortion, nor am I against it. In fact, I envy the child that was aborted. Lucky them. They get to go straight to see God before having to endure the cruelty of this world . . .

What you really mean is that you are on "the side of faith in God".

Who has the right to decide what count as a "sin"...?

You misunderstand.
When I said "race" I meant "the human race".

When it comes to question about abort, the women decides if they want to give birth.
It is their choice, and theirs alone.
Anyone who thinks about forcing them to give birth is a piece of trash.

I am neither on the side of Religion or Science . . . I am on the side of Faith.

At some point in their life, everyone has or either will sin. Mostly it is unintentional and we have no idea that we have sinned, but, I assure you, that everyone, me, you, and all the people on this planet have - or will - sin.

I'm not blaming anyone for their faults. We all have flaws, no one will ever be perfect. And it doesn't matter what race you are, everyone, no matter where they are from or what they believe in, has sinned. Sin is a master of disguise and we are liable to be fooled by it at anytime. It is inevitable that we shall sin. There is no escaping it.

Actually, I'm interested to hear your opinion on infants, if you don't mind to share. If not, that's fine.

Oh.

Everyone has not "sinned".

I may have done something "bad" but I do not blame that on what race I am born as.

I am tired of the subject of infants...
My opinion is clear on that subject.

I see . . . And that's, in a way, good, in my opinion. I'm not trying to force you into Religion, but I'm just trying to help you see more that you may have missed. And, actually, I'm neither on the side of Religion or Science either. I hate Religion. Now don't get me wrong here, I love God, but Religion is a different thing entirely. Religion is what brings about hate and war and killings, discrimination, and all of those things, and I believe that we could do better without all this controversy. I don't believe or am "on the side" of Religion. I believe in Faith.

And I say "we" because it's true. And I'm not saying that everyone has contributed to "bad things or projects or what have you." There is something that is inevitable to avoid . . . Everyone on this Earth has sinned, whether they or anyone else knows it or not. No one is pure. Now go on; ask me about the infants and the newborns that haven't done anything wrong . . .

Hmmm...

I am neither on the side of Science or Religion...
I will never "take a side" either...

You really shouldn't say that "we" corrupted this world.
Saying that is like blaming every human, even if they haven't done anything.

Oh, hay . . . I know you've just been missing my rants . . . Well, not really. I do know that you probably like, "Oh, great . . ." now that I've returned and all, but I had school and other stuff to do, so I din't really have much time then. Yet now I do. I'm not quite done ranting yet . . .

First off, the Bible wasn't written just so man could create and overall explanation for the world, but to remember everything that happened. And I know that you're probably gonna' tell me that none of it can be proven, yes that's true, but honestly, can we really prove anything? I see that you're probably a more scientifical type person, believing in facts and all that, most are true, but it has been proven by scientists that we really can't prove that anything, ANYTHING, is real. Kind of like Inception, where we all just think that we're living, but really, we have no proof that anything is even real, anything is even there. No one can really tell if it's all real or all imagined. There really can't be proof at all.

Now about this all-loving God being so horrible because the world is so terrible. As I said before, God gave us free will. He gave us the power to do whatever we wanted to and this world is what comes of it. And God doesn't think of us as "lesser" than him. True, he is above all, but he created us in his image and gave us complete control over the way we live, our actions, our lives, our desires, all of it he gave to us to rule over. He hasn't forced us to be his slaves, experiments, or anything like that, he just created us because he wanted to. He gave us life and decision and power, all for us to control. He loves everyone, murderers and "good people" alike, and cares for us all, but he doesn't really interfere with us that much. He's let us do our own thing, and that's the reason that this world is so horrible; Man's desire, greed, and power. It is only us who have corrupted this world.

I guess...
---
I am simply stating possibilities.
---
The Bible was written because humans tried to understand a being they cannot comprehend...
---
If there was an all-mighty, all-loving God, then this world would not be an as horrible world as it is...
Also... An all-loving god would not create beings and thing of them as "lesser"...
---
The two possibilities that remain then are:
1. Gods cannot interfere with the lives of humans without some consequence for that world, undepending on their intentions...
2. Gods do not care about humans... Humans are insects to them...
---
I believe in the first one...

But you still have the power of free will.

So now you're goin' on about how neither can exist without the other, eh? I can see your reasoning there, but God is above Time and he was the only one in the, well, universe is too small, I should say in all of existence. Satan didn't exist back then and, neither could Lucifer. One in the same.

And God was the pretty much the whole reason the Bible was written; so we could learn from his teachings and the error of our ways.

And yes, I did leave out the animals, but I did think about it before I sent that reply. Human's, back then, mad sacrifices to God, slaughtering sheep and offering them with sweet-smelling spices. Sure a lot of animals died, but it isn't like they have the same "value" as humans do. They were just servants to God, that's all.

They never said the world was going to end. The end of the Mayan calendar marks a new age, not the end of the world. Hence it being a calendar. If anything were to end it should have been interpreted as time itself, not the world. So even the misinterpretation is absurd.

Not directly... But choices are not always possible.

Only according to the Bible, which is hardly a valid source of history...
What if Satan is the Shadow of God...?
What about:iconyinyangplz:...?

Again, that is only according to the Bible...

A god would hardly inspire such a horrible book...

You also ignored an important part... What about all the animals who died in the flood...?

An therein lies the issue . . . Denial of Reign. I can sort of see why you dislike absolutism, but answer me this. Has anyone ever possessed you to "control" your actions? Or are you the only one who can decide your motives and how you act upon it?

History time . . . Lucifer was God's servant, yes? Indeed. Then God hurled him to Earth because he was in question of God's reign. Lucifer landed on the Earth and his rage toward God grew stronger. Therefore he became the embodiment of evil. Then, if Lucifer isn't the same as Satan, where did Satan come from? Did he just decide, "Oh, hay. I'm evil and I'm gonna stand against God."? Not likely . . . They are the same.

At the time of The Flood, there wasn't any innocent people left in the world. Everyone was wicked and cruel, defying God as you do now, building false idols. Evil reigned. That is why God purged the Earth. It was brutal, yes, but the people never listened to God and got what they deserved. In fact . . . Truly, I believe that it would be a great idea to do it again, only this time for good since we, well, most of us . . . , have already been saved. This world is so full of wickedness and evil and it's spreading rapidly. I just keep living my life everyday, hoping that sometime soon Time's End will come about. Only then will there be peace . . .

I defy absolutism.
Nothing good can come from absolutism.

Lucifer and Satan are not the same.
Satan is likely to have existed as long as God have existed, being The Shadow of God.
That is not Lucifer. Lucifer has every right to hate God, as do I.

What about the innocent people, and animals who died in the great flood...?
Not that god cares at all...

So I see your reason to defy now . . . You don't like the thought that there is some all-powerful being, superior to everyone else, that "sits" above the world and reigns over all. It is because you dislike how he is one to pass judgement, arbitrate upon everyone, and decide our fates. But keep in mind that it was him who gave us free will to do what we want to do. He isn't the one holding us back. It is only we who hold ourselves back . .

Satan and Lucifer are one in the same. Lucifer was just not as evil as Satan is. His rage from being cast from the Heavens just made him hate God even more.

And The Great Flood, by the way, was a purge of sin. Yes, it was the largest killing ever, but it was for the best . . .

How can we be sure anything is true? Believing and proving are two completely different prospects. One can be known without ever existing and the other can exist without ever being known. The proof doesn't matter, as long as you have faith.

Lucifer and Satan are relatively the same thing, by the way. Lucifer was God's right-hand man, if you will, but then Lucifer began to question God's authority and plotted against him. Lucifer tried to rise up, but God cast him from the Heavens and he fell for, I believe it was 7 days and nights, until he landed on the Earth. From then on, he has tried to defeat God or undermine him by spreading sin through the world. And, sadly, Satan, or Lucifer, has spread sin quite a bit . . .

You're right; no one man can know the truth, but the Bible does provide a fair bit of answers to life.

And, by the way, Lucifer/Satan is the antagonist of the Bible. There really isn't a consistent protagonist throughout though. It varies . . .

Not a problem! Yeah that tends to be annoying... The only suspicious thing is that all the calendars ended at the same time. But even then they might have been up to 10 years off in their translation of the date into our calendar. So it could have been 10 years ago or it could happen in 10 years. At least that's what my World History professor said...
