NASA To Put An Asteroid In Orbit Around The Moon, Because Science

So NASA has a cool plan for 2020, to go grab a boulder from off the surface of an asteroid, then put it into orbit around the moon, and send astronauts to study it. The mission serves a few purposes: namely it will provide researchers with more information about asteroids, and perhaps prepare us for a preventative mission if an asteroid ever threatens to collide with Earth. In addition, it would provide trial runs for a few different maneuvers that would be required during a mission to Mars. Sounds like fun!

T-Rex Tissue

Some soft tissue from a T-Rex has been discovered on a fossil from Montana. This represents a very rare find in terms of dinosaur fossils, and it will hopefully allow us to learn more about the diets and day-to-day lives of the T-Rex. Scientists are uncertain whether they will be able to retrieve any DNA from the sample (read: Jurassic Park clones are a maybe at this point), but a forthcoming study related to this discovery does add evidence to the theory that modern birds are descended from dinosaurs. We’ll let you know if any more details emerge, but in the mean time does this not make you just a little more excited to see Jurassic World?

Apple Moves Toward Zoom Lenses

Apple wants to develop moveable lenses to work with its devices like the iPhone and iPad, but before that’s possible it needed a new light splitter to work with its iSight cameras. That light splitter has already been invented, and as of this week Apple has been granted a patent for it, allowing them to move further down the road toward developing lenses for its devices. We are envisioning this being used by professional photographers to capture striking images, but we are also aware it’s going to take our selfie game to a whole other level.
