All artists require practice but for those looking to hone their skills as tattoo artists, this hasn't always been easy. Some have been known to practice on fruit peels or raw chicken skin but what's for certain is that none of this compares to actually tattooing human skin. Tattoo Art Magazine decided that this was a problem worth solving and commissioned Brazilian Ad Agency, Lew’Lara TBWA, to help. Introducing, The SkinBook, a Moleskine-like sketchbook filled with pages made from synthetic skin instead of paper.
Iranian artist Atena Farghadani is a prisoner of conscience, detained and now facing years in prison for her peaceful activism. The activism was her artwork that depicted politicians as animals. 33,000 people signed Amnesty International's online petition. Many are fearful for her safety since she recently started a hunger strike. Follow the link on the Amnesty International page for directions to help her cause or sign the petition being organized by ForceChange.com.

This week the world was introduced to the latest celebrity from the Jenner househould, Caitlyn Jenner. And she hit with a storm. Cover of Vanity Fair, photographed by Annie Liebowitz, and every news station in the country. What makes Caitlyn as a Jenner so special is that she was once the olympic champion Bruce Jenner. Perhaps for the first time, the publicity surrounding a Jenner will actually be for a good thing. The spotlight on Caitlyn's transition and the conversation around it can only benefit the often marginilized transgender community. It's almost worth putting up with the rest of the family. Almost.

We love this on every level. Clarity’s songs and poems are intelligent, insightful, fresh takes on love and the human condition in general. Authenticity, originality, and a unique perspective capable of producing fresh imagery like this, is something our current pop culture is sorely lacking. Clarity’s songs speak with a knowingness and camaraderie that draws those left out of the usual "cool kid" cliques into her musical salon of new ideas. Her poetic essays, “Plastic Plants” and “Celery Sticks,” exhibit a refreshing subtle courage in self-discovery and revelation. Her songs, in both content and construction, are actually interesting.

Sometimes just being acknowledged as existing is the first step to being recognized as a living breathing person. In Bangladesh, the government is planning to recruit hijras as traffic police. "Hijras" are what we refer to in the west as transgender and have been recognized as a separate gender there since 2013. While the reaction to the announcement was mixed most people seem to think this is a positive step and are supportive of the measure. Baby steps, right?
Just when you thought that there were some things still sacred in Hollywood... Rumors abounded today of a Big Trouble In Little China remake, the original film starring Kurt Russell and directed by John Carpenter. The remake will potentially star the Rock AKA Dwayne Johnson from a script by X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Personally I'd love this to be a sequel with Kurt back as Jack Barton who teams up with and hands off the potential series to Dwayne. But, damn it, we're interested either way.
Fox is looking to continue the television series 24 but without Jack Bauer. The hunt is on for a younger, hotter, secret agent to torture foreign nationals when Jack retires. Sounds like a job for a Taylor Lautner type if ever we heard one.
There is a Monthly Art Contest that happens in the forums and it involves you sharing a piece of your artwork that reflects the theme in question. This month's theme is Peacefulness and you can get involved here.
