Today's inspiration

Inspiration for today comes in the form of some Viking wisdom - “It is better to fight and fall than to live without hope” and this feature of artwork.

Attack! The Titans Are Coming!

Big fans here of Attack On Titan! so we can't wait for the release of the two movies this year. We're hopeful for the original Japanese versions, not a half-baked remake with US actors. Although you have to feel sorry for the American actors too. A British actor gets to be Spider-Man, another Brit gets to be Superman, but they finally cast an American to play Batman! Anyway, the Titans are coming! Rejoice.

Speaking Of Spider-Man...

Spider-Man gets his third movie reboot in ten years with the casting of 19 year-old actor Tom Holland (did we say he's British?) as a much younger version of Peter Parker. We've gotten so used to twenty-something actors playing nineteen year-olds that it's a shock when they get an actual nineteen year-old... to play a fifteen year-old? Oh, Hollywood, you know us as the masochists we are so well. You're clearly saving the Miles Morales casting for reboot number 4.

Heroes Reborn?

Calm down folks! Marvel isn't making a TV show of the disaster that happened when the Image creators took over the companies main characters for a year. No, this is the return of the NBC series Heroes that had us fretting about cheerleaders who would save the world. Well now this thinly diguised X-Men rip-off is back. Wisely they have released their promo trailer early before the Star Wars promotional machine wipes everything out starting at San Diego Comic-con. It may sound like we're complaining about it, but we're going to watch it. Then we'll complain about it.

Captain Marvel Is Coming!

Marvel are relaunching their Captain Marvel comic in the wake of the announcement that she'll have her own movie soon. Gone is the awesomely talented Kelly Sue DeConnick who created the popularity around the character and in is Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, writers on the Agent Carter and Resurrection TV series. While they've committed to retaining the important elements of Captain Marvel's character, they have already made some minor modifications to her costume and her hair.  What do you think of the changes? Let us know!

Discuss Popularity

It's easy to feel lost in the crowd when the community feels so huge. However, popularity in our community is not only based on amazing artwork, it's also very relative to community activity. This week, Astralseed is tackling this very topic in her discussion here. Join the conversation!

Pygmy Hippo Baby!

Take Down That Flag

So the governor of Alabama, Robert Bentley, ordered the removal of the Confederate flag from the capital grounds this morning amid the controversy surrounding the fact that most people liken the flag with the Nazi flag and the Klu Klux Klan. For those who are upset about this we would point you to most of Asia where the swastika was once considered to be a sacred and auspicious symbol. They're still very upset people get offended seeing the swastika after all this time. Maybe in a few hundred years we can take another look at using it again.

Laser Hits Ink Droplet

Sometimes science is awesome just because it does silly stuff that just looks cool. Fire a laser at an ink droplet several times and record it. What an awesome job!

Copyright On Holiday Snaps

A proposal for a new law currently before the European Parliament could outlaw online posting of photographs that include famous tourist attractions, if they are still under copyright. Uploading photographs from your latest tour of EU landmarks could land you in court, IF the European Parliament approves this new copyright law on July 9. Most countries in Europe have a freedom of panorama, meaning you can take pictures of cultural works located in public places and use them how you like. No so in Italy, France, Greece and Belgium. In an effort to unify Europe's laws the rest of Europe may have to agree to enforce copyright laws on buildings, which means you can't post your pictures to Facebook as the terms and conditions allow Facebook to use anything you post there for potential profit.

Same Sex Marriage In Game From Nintendo

First released in 2013 in North America, Nintendo’s Fire Emblem: Awakening, then the most recent game in the company’s popular turn-based tactics series Fire Emblem, introduced a new romance system, allowing players to pair off characters of the opposite sex into couples, eventually leading to children who were far more powerful than either of their parents. With Awakening’s follow-up, Fire Emblem Fates, hitting Japanese store shelves tomorrow, Nintendo has promised to update the romance system to allow for same-sex couples as well. The game will hit US and European stores sometime in 2016.
